Job Title: Data Licensing Legal Counsel


Location: London - 2 days a week in the office (St Pauls)


Position Overview:

My client is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Data Licensing Legal Counsel to join their legal team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data licensing, intellectual property, and contract negotiation, as well as a deep understanding of relevant regulations and compliance requirements. This role will involve advising on legal aspects of data licensing agreements and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Part of the role will be facing off to the sales team so it's important that you feel comfortable and have experience of this.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Contract Drafting and Negotiation: Draft, review, and negotiate data licensing agreements, including terms of use, service level agreements, and data sharing agreements.
  • Legal Advice: Provide legal advice on data licensing matters, intellectual property rights, and related compliance issues.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Monitor and advise on compliance with relevant data protection laws and regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and industry standards.
  • Risk Assessment: Identify and assess legal risks associated with data licensing activities and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product development, sales, and IT, to ensure alignment on licensing strategies and compliance.
  • Training and Guidance: Provide training and guidance to internal stakeholders on data licensing practices and legal requirements.
  • Dispute Resolution: Assist in resolving any disputes or issues that arise in connection with data licensing agreements.

Qualifications:


  • Minimum of 3 years of experience PQE, ideally in data licensing and/or intellectual property, preferably in a corporate or technology environment.
  • Strong knowledge of data protection laws and regulations, as well as industry best practices related to data licensing.
  • Excellent contract negotiation and drafting skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience in financial services and data driven environments is a plus.
  • Familiarity with emerging trends in data usage and licensing, including AI and machine learning applications.
